Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery for cancer of the prostate is a minimally invasive therapy which can be done in an outpatient setting with rapid recovery, minimal side effects, and cure rates equivalent to robotic surgery and radiation therapy. Our most exciting treatment of late is focal cryosurgery or the so-called "male lumpectomy". This approach is ideal for men with minimal unilateral (one lobe) disease who wish to preserve potency and return to work quickly. This treatment spares the remaining prostate and all its functions while effectively killing cancer cell areas only. This therapy promises to be the next great evolution in prostate cancer cure.
Similarly, we offer cryosurgery for kidney cancer which we perform laparoscopically, allowing for preservation of all remaining normal kidney tissue. Most patients leave the hospital in 24 hours and return to work in one week. Cure rates have been shown to be identical to traditional partial kidney removal and total kidney removal in which there is an unnecessary major loss of normal kidney tissue.
